Hornsea Pottery

Founded in 1949, Hornsea Pottery started as a small, two-man operation crafting souvenirs for seaside tourists. With time, the pottery's dedication to quality and iconic designs led to remarkable growth. At its peak, Hornsea Pottery boasted over 700 employees working across two factories in Hornsea and Lancaster. The company's ceramic tableware became renowned for its exceptional designs, capturing the essence of each era. Regrettably, Hornsea Pottery concluded its remarkable journey in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of timeless craftsmanship and creativity.

Heirloom pattern

Heirloom pattern, originally designed by John Clappison for Hornsea in 1966.

William John Clappison was an English ceramic and glass designer. Although Clappison is not as familiar as many of his British contemporaries, his work sold in the millions. Initially working out of the Hornsea Studio, partly financed by his father, Clappison would later work for Ravenhead Glass and Royal Doulton.
